Seen and Heard is how I’m rebelling against the dictum that echoed throughout my 70’s childhood: “Children should be seen and not heard.”

I’ve always had a hunger to see and be seen, but not in the superficial, nice, pretty-girl way “seen and not heard” suggests. I want to see the real person beneath the surface small talk and image. When I was little, I turned to books to learn about other people’s lives. I still turn to books. I’m obsessed with being heard and hearing others—their real, unfiltered stories.

That’s why I started a blog called Drinking Diaries with my friend, Caren Osten Gerszberg. For a number of years, we asked people to share their drinking stories—both good and bad—and we posted interviews, essays, polls and news items.

The best way to learn is from each other’s experiences. I’m here to share my stories—what I’m seeing, hearing and thinking about—in the hopes that it will spark something in you. There are plenty of places to turn for advice and self improvement—this is more of a story project, as in, I’m letting the stories speak for themselves.

Feel free to chime in. I’d love to hear your stories—no advice offered, no judgment. Just a space to be human together. Join me.

If you see it, think it, feel it, I want to hear about it.
